A 38-year-old British man, Martyn Latchman, has tragically died in Istanbul, Turkey, after falling ill during the preparatory stage of a hair transplant procedure. The incident occurred at the well-known Dr Cinik clinic, located in the Beşiktaş area of the city.

Latchman, originally from Milton Keynes and formerly a long-time educator, was reportedly undergoing his second transplant procedure when the unexpected medical emergency occurred.

What Happened at the Clinic?

Medical Emergency Before Procedure Began

According to a statement from Dr Cinik clinic, Latchman had undergone a successful transplant the previous summer and returned for a follow-up procedure. Prior to the operation, he underwent comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, including:

  • Blood tests

  • Chest X-ray

  • ECG

  • Supervision by an anesthesiologist

All tests reportedly cleared him for the procedure.

However, before the transplant began, during the preparatory phase, he suddenly became unwell. Immediate medical intervention was provided, and he was rushed to a nearby university hospital’s intensive care unit, where he died later that day.

Dr Cinik Clinic Responds

Denies Reports of Death During Surgery

The clinic emphasized that the operation had not started at the time of Latchman’s health deterioration. In a public statement, the clinic expressed its deep condolences and clarified:

“The incident occurred before the hair transplant procedure had begun... No procedure was interrupted.”

Cooperation with Authorities

The clinic further stated that:

  • All relevant medical records have been submitted to authorities

  • A judicial investigation is underway

  • Out of respect for the family and the legal process, no additional details will be disclosed

UK Foreign Office Statement

A spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office confirmed involvement, stating:

“We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Latchman’s body has since been returned to the UK.
